As a renter, there are very few things that I can do to change my space – particularly my entryway. That’s when I decided it’s time to get creative. I have a very small, but cute entryway. The entryway is the perfect place for someone to get the vibe of your home and have an idea of how the rest of your space will look like. You want your interior design style to be consistent throughout your home.

The issue I had with this space was how tight it was and how there was a lack of light in the area. My entryway had good bones, as the vinyl flooring was already put in, and the paint color was neutral.

It also had a coat closet with a basic sliding door. The closet is good for the coats, hats, and shoes. But I was missing storage for things like keys, sunglasses, and other little trinkets that are useful to have at your entryway.

I knew I needed a console table with drawers. The trick was finding a console that was small enough to fit in the entryway. Luckily, I was able to find mine at Homesense, and it came in the cutest soft-pink wood color. It’s a mid-century inspired design with splayed legs and has soft-cream geometric square-patterned drawers.

Then I needed a mirror for the entryway. At first, I had a temporary smaller round mirror, that worked well enough. But it wasn’t what I envisioned for the space. I wanted the place look and feel grander. Essentially, that meant that I needed to put a large mirror.

Now I love the European gold gilded styles, so that was exactly what I needed. I ended up getting the 5 ft. Pascale mirror from Structube. It’s made of iron, so it was pretty heavy to put up. Not to mention, it is the exact dupe of the Anthrolopogie Primrose mirror! It immediately changed the space and added the grandeur and largeness that was missing in the entryway. Mirrors, are key to use in small spaces, to bounce in light and give the illusion of more space, both which this entryway needed.

The rest was just décor. I don’t like using the overhead light, because it is super bright and harsh, so I found a set of matching lamps, to place on the console table. The ones I picked came in a gold finish, with white marble on the base for class. To finish off the look of the console table, I bought a vintage piece of art with a gold frame for even more European flair. I found a cute faux Eucalyptus plant with a white plaster vase, bringing in that Mediterranean touch to the room. Homesense is your friend for affordable decor. (called HomeGoods for my US friends)

And of course we cannot forget the floor, I added a nice entryway rug, that looked like a rug but could handle the mess that comes from outside. I didn’t want a real jute/sisal rug, but I did want a textured rug, that looked like a natural sisal rug. I found mine from IKEA (the Lydersholm) and it was perfect. It’s allergy friendly and it looks brand new even after a year. It wears really well.

The final touch, to the space, was to add a renter-friendly wallpaper on the closet doors. The beige closet doors were so plain and boring. So I added a water-based wallpaper, with a silver and white geometric pattern, mimicking the geometric pattern on the console table drawers.

With a beautiful mix of traditional and modern, I feel my entryway is a great example of a transitional space that is timeless and chic. I’m really happy with it, and I’m amazed how the right pieces and tricks can help even the tiniest space be revitalized with thoughtful design; which gives it a lot of heart. ||
